Washington: The US Supreme Court has stayed Trump’s decision to expel Venezuelan immigrants from the country. Many immigrants are currently locked up in a detention center in Texas. The Trump administration wanted to send them out of the country as soon as possible through the ‘Alien Enemies Act’ of 1798.
While staying the Trump administration’s decision, the court said that the government will have to give people a full opportunity to undergo the legal process before expelling them from the country. The court also said that the method adopted by the Trump administration, such as sending immigrants out of the country within 24 hours without a hearing, is not right at all. The Alien Enemies Act is a law made during the war time in which no legal action has to be taken to expel enemies from the country. However, it was challenged in the court through some provisions of the US Constitution.
