CBI did not find evidence: Court closed corruption case against Satyendra Jain

New Delhi: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has closed the ongoing corruption case against Aam Aadmi Party leader Satyendra Jain. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has not found any evidence of any illegal benefit in this case. Special Judge (PC Act) of Rouse Avenue Court Dig Vinay Singh accepted the CBI’s closure report. He said that even after four years of investigation, no evidence of corruption has been found against Jain. The allegations presented and the factual background are not enough to initiate further investigation or proceedings. The law clearly states that suspicion cannot replace evidence.

It is also worth noting that mere suspicion is not enough to accuse someone. At least strong evidence is required to proceed further. The AAP leader was accused of bypassing standard government recruitment processes by approving the appointment of a 17-member team of consultants for the PWD through outsourcing when he was serving as the Public Works Department minister in the Delhi government. The vigilance department filed a complaint, based on which an FIR was registered against Jain in May 2019.
