Fast bowler Gurjpaneet Singh, who plays domestic cricket for Tamil Nadu, recently returned from injury and performed brilliantly in the Duleep Trophy, taking eight wickets in two innings for the South Zone.
His career now appears to be on the right track. Gurjpaneet was included by Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2025, but was ruled out due to injury. He once caught everyone’s attention by dismissing Cheteshwar Pujara, a brilliant Test batsman, for a duck. Gurjpaneet said, “I’m just trying to do my best. I always hope to bowl at least 20 overs a day. I also have to manage my workload and give my 100% to every ball.”
The way Gurjpaneet bowled against batsman Rajat Patidar, denying him the opportunity to play freely, shows that his bowling has improved significantly. The fast bowler has been plagued by injuries since 2022, starting with a lower back strain.
Gurjpaneet said, “I suffered a lower back injury during the TNPL league in Tamil Nadu that year. When I came back, I struggled with my fitness. I wasn’t able to bowl many overs, so gradually, day by day, I did whatever was necessary with the strength and conditioning coach and physio, and that helped me play in the TNPL 2023, and it was a good season.”
2024 began on a positive note for Gurjpaneet, who dismissed veteran batsman Pujara for a duck in a Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra. He returned with career-best figures of six for 22. He was selected as a net bowler ahead of India’s home Test series against Bangladesh in late 2024, where he practiced extensively against Kohli and impressed him.
