Important meeting in Delhi regarding Bihar seat sharing, 25 seats discussed

New Delhi:  The Election Commission has announced the dates for the Bihar elections, but the issue of seat sharing between the Grand Alliance and the NDA remains unresolved. The Congress party has called an important meeting on Wednesday regarding seat sharing. Congress leader Ajay Maken and other leaders attended the meeting.

It is reported that during the meeting, 25 seats in Bihar were discussed and the names of candidates for these seats were finalized. Congress sources say that the meeting was held in response to the confusion in Bihar regarding seat allocation. The message was conveyed that Congress candidates will contest only those seats in Bihar that the Congress Screening Committee approves.

Meanwhile, in Patna, Bihar, seat-sharing discussions between Grand Alliance leaders continued late Tuesday night at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s residence. Consequently, a meeting of the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) has been called for Wednesday. Representatives from the RJD, Congress, Vikassheel Insaan Party, and the CPI(M) were present at the meeting in Patna on Tuesday.

It is reported that at a meeting in Patna, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni demanded more than 40 seats in the Bihar Assembly elections and questioned the Congress’s claim of 60 seats. The VIP party also claimed that the opposition cannot come to power without its support. Therefore, they should receive adequate respect and a share.

According to sources, the VIP party raised the question at the meeting as to why Congress is demanding such a large share in the seat-sharing arrangement in Bihar. In response, Congress explained that Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Rights Yatra in Bihar and the party’s performance in the recent elections have given the opposition renewed energy. RJD wants to field candidates in seats where VIP doesn’t have strong candidates. Sources currently indicate that the Congress meeting held on Wednesday finalized candidates for 25 seats in Bihar.
