You may be surprised to know that Paul Biya, the world’s oldest head of state, has once again stunned the world with a landslide victory in Cameroon’s presidential election. After the official announcement of the election results, he was declared the winner and elected president of the country. With this victory, Paul Biya will begin his eighth term. It is estimated that he will be close to 100 years old by the time his current term ends.
According to reports, Biya received 53.66 percent of the vote, while his former ally and opposition leader, Tchiroma Bakary, received 35.19 percent. Biya has been in power in Cameroon since 1982 and is one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders. His historic victory has once again drawn global attention to his age and leadership abilities. After all, a leader leading the country despite being close to 100 years old could be a unique phenomenon.
The results of the presidential election in Cameroon have once again made history. 92-year-old Paul Biya, who has been in power continuously since 1982, has won the presidential election again. Paul Biya has led the country for the past 43 years and has been awarded another term. In 2008, Paul Biya abolished presidential term limits through a constitutional amendment, granting him the right to contest elections indefinitely. Since then, he has won every election and maintained a firm grip on power.
The opposition is alleging vote rigging. Tchiroma claimed victory just two days after the October 12 election. He presented a vote tally showing he had received 54.8 percent of the vote, while Paul Biya had received 31.3 percent.
