Chandigarh: Haryana Congress has suffered a major setback. Former minister Sampat Singh has left the Congress. Today, he sent his resignation to Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge. He described his decision to leave the party as purely personal and has not yet considered joining any other party. Sampat Singh had attended the INLD rally in Rohtak on September 25th, on the birthday of Tau Devi Lal. He had joined the Congress from INLD. He had also raised questions on the appointment of Bhupinder Singh Hooda as the Leader of the Opposition. Sampat Singh’s resignation will prove to be a major setback for the Haryana Congress.
Sampat Singh has raised questions on the continuous neglect and state leadership in his long resignation letter of four pages, citing several reasons like continuous neglect, changing of assembly constituency, not giving ticket, not giving place in cabinet after winning, not giving budget for development works of the area despite being in the government. He has also raised questions on the state leadership. Apart from this, he has mentioned the continuous neglect and exodus of big leaders from Congress and has called it dangerous for Congress. He has mentioned about big leaders like Kuldeep Bishnoi, Dharambir Singh, Kiran Chaudhary, Shruti Chaudhary, Arvind Sharma, Ashok Tanwar, Avtar Bhadana, Savitri Jindal, Naveen Jindal leaving Congress.
Sampat Singh wrote that Dalit voters overwhelmingly supported the Congress party in the Lok Sabha elections, winning five seats. However, due to arrogance and family interests, the state leadership marginalized Kumari Selja. Casteist remarks and offensive videos were circulated against her. Her supporters were denied tickets. As a result, the Dalit community boycotted the Congress.
No accountability was held for the party’s consecutive defeats from 2009 to 2024. No action was taken against those responsible for vote theft or ticket theft. In 2005, under Bhajan Lal’s leadership, the Congress won 67 seats, and the defeats have continued since then. The people of Haryana are now disappointed with both the state and national leadership.
After the 2024 defeat, Rahul Gandhi himself admitted that the state leadership placed personal interests above the party. Yet, the same leadership remained in place. Under these circumstances, I lose faith in the Indian National Congress’s ability to represent the interests of the people of Haryana. I am a proud Haryanvi and cannot disappoint the people of my state. My commitment to Haryana is unwavering, but I have lost faith in the current Congress leadership. Therefore, I am compelled to resign from the Indian National Congress.
