New Delhi. Political turmoil is growing over the Indigo issue. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi raised serious questions about the central government’s role, saying that the government cannot absolve itself of its responsibilities simply because a minister issued a statement. He stressed that the true story of this entire incident must be revealed and a detailed discussion in the House is essential.
Speaking to the media, Gogoi alleged that in statements made in both houses of Parliament over the past two days, the government has placed the entire responsibility on a private company, as if it had no role of its own. He said that it appears as if regulatory bodies have no responsibility. Thousands of flights were cancelled, passengers faced difficult conditions at airports and suffered financial losses, yet the government appears to be aloof from its responsibility.
The MP also said that the government suddenly withdrew new rules introduced for the convenience of pilots. Neither pilots nor passengers received any relief, nor did the government acknowledge its role. Simply issuing a notice does not absolve the government of its responsibility. He said that after the minister’s statement in the Lok Sabha, the opposition walked out in disagreement because the government was avoiding an honest discussion on the entire issue. He said that the number of flights cancelled in a week is not just a figure, but the full truth behind it should be revealed. Gogoi also expressed concern about the state of the aviation industry. He said that while the government may talk about a rapidly growing aviation market, what good is it when airport infrastructure is expensive, ticket prices are skyrocketing, conditions for pilots and ground staff are deteriorating, and the entire industry is being run at the behest of a few private companies. Another MP, Fauzia Khan, also raised questions on this issue. She said that while it is necessary to send a notice, is it solely IndiGo’s fault? Does the government have no responsibility? She questioned whether the rules that were implemented were correct, and if not, how did the entire system suddenly come to a halt? The truth behind the withdrawn rules should also be revealed.
Regarding another controversy related to Vande Mataram, Congress leader Renuka Chowdhary said that no amount of fabricated documents can change the truth. She added that history clearly shows who played what role during the freedom movement, and that those raising questions about this issue today did not even exist at that time.
Regarding the notice issued to Sonia Gandhi, Congress leader Kiran Kumar Chamala said that the repeated targeting of Sonia Gandhi and her family is a sign of political vendetta. He pointed out that discussions on electoral reforms could only begin after two sessions were demanded. According to him, the SIR process is being misused in many states, while its provisions are limited and should only be implemented when necessary. This entire incident has not only exposed the shortcomings of the aviation sector but has also heated up the political atmosphere. Questions raised about government accountability and the role of regulatory bodies remain unresolved.
