Srinagar:  Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that the government is committed to making Jammu and Kashmir modern, progressive and economically viable.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday presented a budget of ₹1.13 lakh crore for the Union Territory. He said that the aim of this financial plan is to lay a strong foundation for sustainable development, social harmony and economic prosperity in the Union Territory. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced two AYUSH hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir. Cath labs will be opened in Rajouri, Baramulla and Doda and emergency hospitals in Uri and Poonch. Along with this, AIIMS Kashmir was announced to be started in 2026. Bullet proof ambulance service will also be started for the border districts.

He announced that vocational education would be introduced in 554 schools. He set a target of introducing 200 new e-buses and building new cultural centers. Presenting the budget, he said that the Kathua and Handwara biotech parks would be revived to promote research, entrepreneurship, and high-end scientific jobs. Solar pumps for farmers, solar-powered government buildings, small hydro projects, and solar villages in tribal areas would be built.

Omar Abdullah announced that the Shri Amarnath Yatra infrastructure will be modernized to improve safety, accessibility, and the pilgrim experience. He announced a full fee waiver for students from grade 9 through college and free LPG cylinders for eligible families in the budget. Additionally, orphaned children will receive monthly sponsorship support to meet their education and living needs. Scholarships will be provided for tribal students and support for tribal livelihoods. Omar Abdullah said that local youth will receive priority employment in industries that benefit from government subsidies.

He said his government is committed to transforming the Union Territory into a modern, progressive, and economically vibrant region by promoting investment, innovation, and participatory governance. Describing the budget as a roadmap for development, Omar Abdullah said, “This budget is not just a numerical audit; it is a financial compass that leads us to a brighter future. It lays a strong foundation for sustainable economic growth, social harmony, and lasting prosperity.”
