New Delhi: New members elected to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament, took their oaths on Monday. Sharad Pawar arrived in a wheelchair, marking an emotional moment. Union Minister Ramdas Athawale was also sworn in as a Member of Parliament along with 19 new members.
The swearing-in ceremony was held in the presence of C.P. Radhakrishnan. Several senior leaders, including Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, were present on the occasion. The new members include representatives from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Odisha. Maya Chintaman Ivnet from Maharashtra was the first to take the oath, followed by Sharad Pawar. Ramarao Sakharam Wadkut, Jyoti Naganath Waghmare, and Ramdas Athawale also took the oath of office from the state.
Several leaders, including M. Thambidurai, Tiruchi Siva, and Anbumani Ramadoss from Tamil Nadu, entered the House. Babul Supriyo and other members from West Bengal also took the oath. Representatives from various parties from Odisha also participated.
The special feature of the ceremony was that most of the MPs took oath in their respective regional languages, which reflects the cultural diversity of India.
