New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has declared that he will intensify the movement against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He stated that the fight against alleged vote theft would continue—if not today, then tomorrow; if not tomorrow, then the day after; and, if necessary, even for another two years. He emphasized that the ultimate goal of the movement is to restore democracy in the country.
Rahul Gandhi also said that he has full respect for the judiciary. However, he maintained that regardless of whether institutions fulfill their responsibilities, the resistance by the public and political parties would continue.
A special tea gathering was held at Rahul Gandhi’s residence for MPs from the INDIA bloc and representatives of civil society. Following the gathering, Rahul Gandhi addressed a joint press conference with Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge. He emphasized that the ongoing campaign was not an isolated protest but a collective and united movement.
He alleged that the country’s electoral system and democratic principles were being severely undermined and that constitutional values were under threat.
Maintaining suspense over the movement’s next steps, Rahul Gandhi declined to disclose the strategy in advance. He explained that revealing future plans prematurely could reduce their effectiveness. He asserted that the movement would continue with the same energy, unity, and determination demonstrated by the opposition parties and their supporters.
He also highlighted the enthusiastic participation of ordinary citizens and individuals unaffiliated with political parties, emphasizing that the movement extended beyond political organizations.
Describing Jantar Mantar as an important center of democratic expression, Rahul Gandhi criticized the government’s restrictions on demonstrations at the venue. He asserted that these restrictions were unjustified and would be challenged both in court and through public protests.
Directly targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Rahul Gandhi alleged that public pressure was mounting against those responsible for electoral irregularities. He warned that those involved in alleged vote rigging would eventually be held accountable.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge described the large turnout in Delhi as a significant success for the movement. He said that young people and ordinary citizens were increasingly raising their voices against alleged vote theft. Kharge also announced that the next phase of the movement would be unveiled soon.
Meanwhile, senior advocate Prashant Bhushan stated that the fight against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was no longer confined to political leaders. He said that farmers, workers, students, and people from various sections of society were joining the movement and standing together in opposition to the exercise.
