New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Chief Minister Atishi on a petition filed by BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor. The petition was filed against the decision of the trial court to dismiss his defamation case.
BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor had alleged that Atishi had made a statement in a press conference that the BJP was trying to bribe the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs to break them. In this case, a bench of Justice Vikas Mahajan has issued a notice and adjourned the hearing.
The petition claimed that the special judge went beyond his jurisdiction and canceled the summons and dismissed the defamation complaint, which was legally flawed. Former Delhi BJP media in-charge Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that the special judge did not give the complainant an opportunity to prove his allegations. He demanded the cancellation of the trial court’s decision, saying that it has many legal flaws.
It is worth noting that Atishi had held a press conference on 27 January 2024 and 2 April 2024 and accused the BJP of giving a bribe of Rs 20 to 25 crore to AAP MLAs. On this, on January 28, the special judge of Rouse Avenue dismissed Praveen Shankar Kapoor’s defamation petition. Now the High Court has sought a reply from Chief Minister Atishi in this matter and further hearing will be held soon.
