Blind passenger caught smuggling gold at Bengaluru airport

Bengaluru:  A blind person has been arrested at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport for smuggling gold worth Rs 3.4 crore. Giving information, custom officials said that the identity of the accused has not been made public. The arrest took place a day after the arrest of Karnataka actress Ranya Rao. 14.2 kg gold worth Rs 12.56 crore was recovered from Ranya Rao. 

In a media report, custom officials said that based on specific information, Bengaluru Air Customs officials stopped the blind passenger after coming from Dubai. During investigation, 3,995.22 grams of gold hidden under his shirt was caught. Its price in the Indian market is Rs 3,44,38,796. A case of smuggling has been registered against him.

Earlier actress Ranya Rao was arrested by the DRI team at Kempegowda International Airport on charges of smuggling gold. Ranya Rao had arrived in Bengaluru from Dubai and was found carrying 14 kg of gold bars which were hidden in a belt. This belt was tied to her body. Apart from this, 800 grams of gold jewellery was also found with her. She was later produced in the court, from where she was sent to 14 days judicial custody. Investigating officials suspect that she is part of a gold smuggling gang actively operating through Bengaluru airport.
