Chandigarh: The Congress high command has taken a tough stand against MP Manish Tewari, who expressed displeasure over not being included in the newly appointed Punjab Congress organization. The central leadership has clarified that Chandigarh is a union territory and does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. After receiving a strong message from the high command, MP Manish Tewari has now maintained complete silence on the entire controversy.
The party high command has clearly explained to Manish Tewari that as long as he represented the Punjab parliamentary constituency, he would be given organizational responsibilities there. Since he is now an MP from Chandigarh and the Congress unit there operates completely independently, he cannot be included in the Punjab organizational structure. The leadership reminded him that for the past few years, he himself had been continuously pressuring them to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Chandigarh. To accommodate his insistence, the party even sidelined the candidacy of a senior leader like former Union Minister Pawan Bansal. Therefore, his dissatisfaction with the Punjab organization is completely baseless.
The entire controversy erupted when the Indian National Congress announced the new Punjab Congress team, which did not include Manish Tewari. Just hours later, the Chandigarh MP shared a highly suggestive post on social media. He began with a Hindi line, “There is no such thing as a badaaaagun usme, which has no skill.” He further wrote that he wished he had a panacea to alleviate the insecurity of people and institutions.
In his post, Manish Tewari used the term “Giddar Singhi,” a traditional amulet or object believed to possess miraculous powers. Political analysts interpreted his statement as a direct dig at the internal insecurities of Punjab Congress leaders. However, following a stern rebuke and clarification from the high command, the MP has changed his tone. He is now avoiding any media questions on the issue and has distanced himself from the entire controversy.
