Lucknow: Ahead of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party has made a major push to woo women voters. The party has announced the launch of the “Stree Samman Samriddhi Yojana” if it returns to power in the state. According to MP Dimple Yadav, under this scheme, eligible women will receive financial assistance of ₹40,000 per year to empower them financially and become self-reliant. The party will soon share a complete outline of the scheme’s eligibility, rules, and application process.
Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav clarified that no society can progress without the participation and progress of half the population. Linking the “Stree Samman Samriddhi Yojana” to women’s true freedom and empowerment, he said that the annual assistance of 40,000 rupees could be further increased in the future. Furthermore, attacking the current government, he said that women’s empowerment has become merely an election slogan for the ruling party, while on the ground, women in the state face insecurity.
Referring to the laptops distributed during the previous Samajwadi Party government, Akhilesh Yadav said that in the future, free laptops will again be provided to girl students who pass the 12th (intermediate) standard. Additionally, free metro travel through a special card has been promised to facilitate female travel. The party believes that these facilities will further empower girls in the fields of education and technology.
The SP president cited the 102 ambulance service, launched during his government, as an example for improved healthcare services and highlighted the shortcomings of the current healthcare system. He also called for the construction of world-class public toilets (izzatghar) to ensure women’s dignity and hygiene. Akhilesh Yadav stressed that his party’s priority is to instill a sense of security in the state’s women and give them an independent and strong identity in society.
