Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar launched a scathing attack on the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) over the CMRL-Exalogic payoff case involving Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his family. He alleged that the CPM had completely surrendered to the Congress and Rahul Gandhi to protect Vijayan from investigation and legal action. He also took a swipe at senior CPM leader M.A. Baby.
The BJP president claimed that the CPM was now busy justifying every move made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He alleged that the party, once known for its strong opposition to Congress politics and corruption, had now capitulated to the Congress to protect its own leader. Describing the situation as “extremely sad, shocking, and shameful,” Chandrasekhar questioned the CPM’s changing political stance.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar recalled that approximately six months ago, Rahul Gandhi himself had spoken about sending Pinarayi Vijayan to jail. Despite this, he alleged, CPM leader M.A. Baby was now adopting a softer stance towards the Congress leader. In a sarcastic remark, Chandrasekhar said that M.A. Baby had finally fallen in love with Rahul Gandhi, adding that only Baby could explain the reason behind this sudden change in attitude.
Responding to the Supreme Court’s order concerning the investigation into Pinarayi Vijayan and his family members in the CMRL-Exalogic payoff case, Chandrasekhar asserted that the court had not completely halted the investigation. Instead, he said, the court had stayed the proceedings and provided the parties involved with an opportunity to approach the High Court.
He further maintained that there was no stay on the First Information Report (FIR) or the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation. Emphasising the importance of accountability, he said the case was not driven by any personal vendetta but concerned the need to ensure that those involved in alleged corruption were held responsible under the law.
Chandrasekhar also alleged that unprecedented corruption had taken place during Pinarayi Vijayan’s tenure as Chief Minister and insisted that he must be held accountable for any wrongdoing. He accused the CPM of compromising its political principles and becoming increasingly dependent on the Congress for protection.
The BJP leader further claimed that the CPM was now operating at the mercy of the Congress leadership and alleged that political protection was being extended from Delhi at Rahul Gandhi’s behest. His remarks have intensified the political controversy surrounding the CMRL-Exalogic case and raised fresh questions about the relationship between the CPM and Congress.
