Washington, D.C.: Incoming Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has stated that the war with Iran will end when the Democrats assume control of Congress in January. Schumer criticized President Donald Trump’s unclear messages, while Trump reiterated that he remains steadfast in his goal of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. The Democrats are noted to have differing views and lack a clear strategy on both Iran and Ukraine. Critics argue that ending the war quickly would further empower Tehran (Iran), allowing it to strengthen control over the Strait of Hormuz and advance its nuclear ambitions. Regarding the recent midterm elections, even though Vice President J.D. Vance acknowledged that the war was a setback for the Republican Party, Republican leaders are calling for rapid completion of actions to achieve their ultimate objectives. In the recent U.S. midterm elections, the Democratic Party made a comeback by winning majorities in both chambers of Congress: Democrats secured 54 seats in the Senate (including independents), maintaining a majority, while the Republican Party was reduced to 44 seats. In the House of Representatives, Democrats won 253 seats, while the Republican Party secured only 155 seats.
