Allegations of Bangladesh national anthem being sung at Congress meeting; Government orders probe

Guwahati:  The Assam government has directed officials to investigate the alleged singing of the Bangladesh national anthem at a Congress meeting. Officials said the Bangladesh national anthem was allegedly sung at a recent Congress Seva Dal meeting in Sribhumi district. However, the Congress criticized the BJP government, saying it was trying to create unnecessary controversy.

A senior official of the Sribhumi district administration confirmed this and said that state government minister Krishnendu Paul has given verbal instructions to investigate the matter, following which an investigation is underway. According to media reports, a meeting of the Congress Seva Dal was held on Tuesday at Indira Bhavan, the Congress district office in Sribhumi city. At the beginning of the meeting, two lines of Bangladesh’s national anthem, “Amar Sonar Bangla,” were sung. Nobel Prize-winning Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore wrote the national anthem of Bangladesh. Tagore also wrote the national anthem of India.
