Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with Indian-origin tech entrepreneurs in South Africa. The discussions focused on new technologies, collaboration in emerging areas, and strengthening ties between India and the Indian diaspora.
The Prime Minister wrote on X, “Had a useful discussion with Indian-origin tech entrepreneurs in Johannesburg. The entrepreneurs spoke about their work in fintech, social media platforms, agriculture, education, healthcare, medical devices and other sectors. Urged them to deepen their engagement with India and work closely with our people.”
During the meeting, several entrepreneurs shared their conversations with the Prime Minister. A tech expert working in the agriculture sector said they discussed education, agriculture, and carbon footprint. “We are building a quantum solution for agriculture,” he said. The conversation focused on how India and South Africa are accelerating development, ensuring food security, and how technology can be leveraged in both countries. Another participant said they briefed the Prime Minister on their ongoing work in media, technology, agriculture, and education.
One entrepreneur said that the meeting mirrored what he had read about the Prime Minister. Many topics were discussed in depth. Another entrepreneur added that the Prime Minister discussed the tech initiatives they are working on and the latest trends in detail. PM Modi’s knowledge on all these subjects is so extensive and deep that he discusses each topic with great insight.
One entrepreneur said, “Our healthcare-focused digital platform connects people with health experts. It offers online appointments, telehealth, and medication delivery. We support most of the private sector in South Africa and neighboring countries.” Another entrepreneur said that Prime Minister Modi asked him what he was doing for Indians and how tourism could be increased. He said that UPI is the world’s largest digital payment platform and India is showing leadership in this area. The Prime Minister always talks about expanding facilities for India.
Upon his arrival in Johannesburg, Prime Minister Modi also expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the Indian community. The cultural program, “Rhythms of a United India,” featured folk dances from 11 states of India, showcasing the cultural diversity of the Indian community in South Africa. On the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, Prime Minister Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders from several countries.
