Patna: On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the Bihar government has announced several important initiatives to promote women’s safety, higher education, and self-reliance. At a special event organized by the Home and Education Departments at Gyan Bhawan in Patna, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary detailed the new initiatives being launched by the state government for the welfare of women.
Special financial assistance schemes have been launched to promote women in the state in the fields of research and entrepreneurship. Under this scheme, 1,000 women will be provided fellowships of ₹10,000 per month to pursue PhDs. Additionally, 2,100 women wishing to start their own businesses will receive financial assistance ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh under the Startup Scheme.
The “Police Didi” scheme has been launched to further strengthen women’s safety mechanisms. Under this initiative, women police officers will be deployed across the state on approximately 2,700 scooters and over 2,000 motorcycles. These women police personnel will specifically patrol around schools, colleges, and sensitive areas, strengthening the confidence of female students and women in their safety.
According to state government data, approximately 18.1 million women in Bihar are currently associated with “Jeevika” groups, of which approximately 4.3 million have already become “Lakhpati Didis.” The government has now set a goal of empowering one lakh more Jeevika Didis and making them lakhpatis over the next two years. The government clearly believes that the all-round development of Bihar is possible only through the empowerment of women.
