Kolkata | West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has appealed to the people to unite to defeat the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections. She said that if people want to live in peace for the next five years, they must stop the BJP.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was addressing a public meeting in Manikchak, Malda district, on Saturday. During the meeting, she made several serious allegations against the BJP. She said that the BJP divides people in the name of religion and tries to spread unrest in the state. She also alleged that central government agencies like the NIA, CBI, and ED are being used politically. According to her, these agencies are being used to pressure her party leaders and candidates. The Chief Minister said that the BJP does not understand the culture of Bengal. She cited the example of fish and meat being included in the offerings to Goddess Kali, but the BJP wants to impose its ideology on the people. Mamata Banerjee appealed to the people not to be misled by anyone. She claimed that innocent people are being arrested in Malda and attempts are being made to vitiate the atmosphere.
She also alleged a secret pact between the BJP and the Congress. She said that if other parties were voted to power, the NRC could be implemented and detention camps could be set up. However, she assured that her government would not allow anyone to be sent to such camps. The Chief Minister also said that even the food and drink of poor people is being interfered with. She alleged that in some states, Bengali-speaking people are being subjected to violence and migrant workers are being prevented from voting. Finally, Mamata Banerjee said that the BJP came to power democratically, but now the people will have to respond democratically. She appealed to the people to unite and use the power of their vote.
Elections for 294 assembly seats in West Bengal will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, while the counting of votes will take place on May 4.
