“Home Minister should come to the House”; Opposition raised slogans in Parliament

New Delhi: The issue of the alleged use of pellet guns on youth during the CJP protest in the national capital Delhi is gaining momentum, over which the entire opposition, including the Congress, has opened a front against the Modi government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi are strongly demanding clarification and accountability from the Home Minister on this serious issue, due to which there has been a continuous deadlock in both the houses of Parliament for the last several days.

Both houses of Parliament witnessed significant disruptions on Friday during the monsoon session when opposition MPs stormed the well and began chanting “Home Minister, come to the House!” and other shrill slogans. The Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned until Monday due to the ongoing uproar, while the Rajya Sabha also witnessed heated protests and sloganeering by opposition members.

Countering the opposition’s persistent demands, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju clarified in both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha that the opposition does not have the right to decide who will respond to any issue within the House. He strongly objected to the opposition’s slogans, stating that Home Minister Amit Shah is present in Parliament from morning until late at night, and that he is a figure whose very name sends shivers down the spine of the country’s terrorists and extremists.

Targeting opposition leaders, Kiren Rijiju said that the relevant minister’s reply is determined by the rules governing the House, and that disrupting the House by shouting slogans is completely inappropriate. Defending the government, he stressed that the matter will be raised in accordance with the rules at the appropriate time, but the opposition is deliberately obstructing the smooth functioning of Parliament.
