Chennai : The Tamil Nadu Assembly session witnessed a heated exchange between the ruling party and the opposition over the Mekedatu dam dispute and the Cauvery water sharing issue. During the House proceedings, both leaders exchanged sharp words on these burning and sensitive issues, creating a heated political atmosphere within the House.
During the discussion in the Assembly, the main opposition leader, Udhayanidhi Stalin, took an aggressive stance and directly questioned the government. He demanded that the Chief Minister clearly state to the House what concrete steps the administration has taken so far to prevent neighboring Karnataka from proceeding with the Mekedatu Dam project.
Chief Minister Joseph Vijay responded to the sharp accusations and questions raised by the Leader of the Opposition. He assured the House that his government was fully prepared to go to any lengths and take all necessary steps to protect the rights and interests of the state’s food providers, i.e., farmers, and the general public.
These serious issues of regional water sharing and inter-state river projects have once again stirred up state politics. Opposition parties are continuously pressuring the government, while the government is vowing to spare no effort in the fight for farmers’ rights, which is likely to further intensify political activity in the coming days.
