Elathur train fire; Shah Rukh committed the crime alone – the charge sheet was filed

Kochi: NIA has filed a charge sheet in the Kozhikode Elathur arson case. According to the charge sheet submitted by the NIA in the Kochi court, the accused Shah Rukh Saifee set fire to the train alone and he was driven by extreme terrorist ideas. The NIA also clarifies that Kerala chose not to identify the accused, who is a native of Delhi.

On the night of April 2 , 2023 , Shah Rukh Saifi set fire to the bogie of Executive Express by pouring petrol on it. In the incident, three people who jumped out for their lives died and nine others were injured. According to the NIA chargesheet, Shahrukh Saifee came to Kerala from Delhi with the intention of creating terror in the society after being attracted by terrorist ideas.

He left Delhi on March 30 and landed in Shornoor on April 2, bought the petrol and lighter needed to light the fire from here. The charge sheet states that when he boarded the train and reached Elathur, the bogie was set on fire. The defendant chose Kerala as a place he was not familiar with and did not recognize. According to the charge sheet, the accused escaped to Ratnagiri in Maharashtra after the incident and was caught there.

Shah Rukh Saifi got attracted to terrorist ideas through online pages. In addition, the defendant has followed certain speeches expressing radical Islamic ideas. According to the chargesheet, it is clear from the examination of Shahrukh Saifee’s mobile and electronic devices that the accused was even attracted to the speeches of a Pakistan-centric group of people who wanted to carry out jihadi activities in India.

After doing the right thing, the accused intended to go back to Delhi and continue his old life. However, the NIA charge sheet also states that the accused’s confessional statement says that he did it because he thought he would get the joy of carrying out a terrorist act.
