Rahul Gandhi insults Savarkar; Uddhav Thackeray remains silent: Ashish Shelar

Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mumbai unit president Ashish Shelar said his party would protest against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks against Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar. Rahul Gandhi has always been saying that Savarkar had apologized to the British to get out of jail. Rahul Gandhi has continuously insulted Savarkar.

Rahul is among the opposition leaders who are present in the city in large numbers for the opposition alliance meeting. Shelar also took a dig at Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, saying he says he is a staunch follower of Savarkar, but remains silent when Rahul makes such objectionable statements. Thackeray and his party workers have become hosts to those who hated Shiv Sena, the BJP leader alleged. These people (members of the opposition ‘India’ alliance) had been hating (Shiv Sena founder) Balasaheb Thackeray for many years. They all have come together now and Uddhav Thackeray is serving them.

He said Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar should be ashamed of rolling out the red carpet for these leaders who “hate Maharashtra”. Shelar alleged, “The members of the opposition alliance ‘India’ claim that they have come together to save democracy but in reality they are trying to save their families.
