India proved its strength in G20…

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday handed over the chairmanship of the G20 group to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. During this he handed over a traditional gavel (a type of hammer) to Silva. During this, Prime Minister Modi called for reflecting the new reality of the world in the new global structure and demanded reforms in global bodies like the United Nations. He said that the world is changing. In such a situation, there is a need to change even the big and responsible institutions of the world. UNSC still has the same number of members as at the time of its establishment. It should expand, that is, the number of permanent countries should increase.

In this respect, the Delhi declaration of G-20 can be called a historic declaration that came in the most difficult times. It is noteworthy that the last G-20 summit was held in Bali, Indonesia. In the Bali Declaration, both China and Russia had registered their objections on the issue related to Russia-Ukraine war. This declaration was finalized only after including the objections of China and Russia. The way Chinese President Xi Jinping had maintained distance in the G-20 summit meeting held in Delhi, there was concern that a consensus might not be reached here too. But the facial expressions of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and G-20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant were worth seeing. Amitabh Kant thanked his fellow officers for this. The Foreign Minister said that Brazil, Turkey etc. helped a lot in reaching this situation. India made great efforts at many levels to achieve consensus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that as you all know that India has the responsibility of chairing the G20 till November 2023. In these two days, all of you gave many suggestions and proposals. It is our duty to review the suggestions once again to see how their progress can be accelerated. I propose that we hold a virtual session of the G20 at the end of November. We can review the topics decided in this summit in that virtual session. I hope you all join the virtual session. With this I declare the G20 session closed.

Brazil praised India
Lula da Silva praised India for giving voice to issues of interest to emerging economies. Brazil will officially take over the presidency of the G20 group on December 1 this year. The President of Brazil said that the debt problem of poor countries will have to be addressed. The world will have to increase efforts to end hunger.

India will now play an active role on the diplomatic front
According to sources, the acceptance of New Delhi Declaration in G20 is a big victory for India on the diplomatic front. The reason is, G20 includes all the superpowers. In his presence, India has found a way to agree. America, France, Britain and Japan also did not create obstacles in the matter of making AU a permanent member. In the ninth paragraph of the manifesto it was written, We confirm that the G20 is a major forum for international economic cooperation. This group is not a platform to resolve geopolitical and security issues. However, we acknowledge that these issues could have significant consequences for the global economy. By saying this, India gave a message to both China and Russia. However, China was not mentioned anywhere.

Russia and Ukraine were also resolved through diplomacy
Paragraph 13 of the New Delhi Declaration reads, We appeal to all states to maintain territorial integrity and sovereignty in accordance with international law. Call for upholding the principles of international law, including humanitarian law, the multilateral system that safeguards peace and stability. Diplomacy and dialogue are important in striving for peaceful resolution of conflicts and resolution of crises between different countries. We will be united in our effort to address the adverse impact of war on the global economy. Would welcome all relevant and constructive initiatives supporting a comprehensive, just and durable peace in Ukraine. Provided, however, that all such initiatives shall maintain all the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations. Peaceful among nations in the spirit of one earth, one family and one future, Friendly and good neighborly relations have to be promoted. By doing this, India sent a message to Russia and Ukraine and made the stand of G20 clear.
