Veolia Awards Grant to The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County for Bound for Success High School SAT Prep Program

(Eastern Bergen County, New Jersey; March 26, 2023) — The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County has been awarded a grant of $27,700 from Veolia to support the new SAT preparation program, Bound for Success.  The program, a partnership with The Community Chest, Dwight Morrow High School and Bergen Family Center’s in-school program, The Zone, prepares high school juniors from low-income families attending Dwight Morrow High School and the Academies at Englewood to take the SAT in June.

“We thank Veolia for their continued support of The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County and the funds to implement the Bound for Success program.  This program will provide motivated college bound high school juniors, who are the first in their families to attend a post-secondary institution, with the tools they need to prepare for the SAT test,” said Dr. Shelly Wimpfheimer, Executive Director, The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County.

Thirty-one students, who applied and completed the application process, were selected to participate in Bound for Success.  Beginning in April, they will attend the program with instruction provided by Prep for Success.  The funding will be used to provide SAT preparation classes, increase the number of low-income, first generation college bound students taking the test and, ultimately, attend and graduate from post-secondary institutions.  During the classes, the students will learn how to take the SAT test, understand the types of questions asked, and study the approaches to use when answering the questions.  In addition, they will also receive some tutorials.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

With the motto “Neighbors Helping Neighbors”, The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County leads initiatives and supports nonprofits that make communities stronger and benefit the people of eastern Bergen County in New Jersey.  The founders’ vision was to fill a chest with individuals and businesses’ generous contributions and to empty the contents by awarding grant funds to support worthy projects led by local nonprofits in the area.

Funds raised in The Chest’s annual campaign support nonprofits’ programs providing social, cultural, recreational, and educational services to residents in the area.  Coordinating and planning services are also provided in its communities, serving as a bridge between agencies and organizations and investing in the stability and quality of the service network.  The organization’s Board of Managers implements a thorough process of screening, research, and monitoring to assure the funds raised are directed to the most worthy programs and the areas of greatest need.
